- Annual fees of £9,000 for England, Northern Ireland and Wales
Annual fees of £9,000 for students from England, Northern Ireland or Wales
Honours degree for £27,000 in 3 or 4 years
The annual fee level for Heriot-Watt students from England, Northern Ireland or Wales will be £9,000, but no student will face total tuition fees of more than £27,000 for a 3 or 4 year Honours degree (except for enhanced degrees). Students with suitable A-Levels are encouraged to enter at Level 2, and for those opting to enter at Level 1 Heriot-Watt will entirely discount the tuition fee for that year. In addition, a generous system of new bursaries means that for many students the overall cost will be less than £27,000.
The new tuition fee of £9,000 per year applies to students from England, Northern Ireland or Wales starting a full-time undergraduate programme in 2012. This annual fee also applies to the additional final year (Level 5) of enhanced first degrees such as MEng, MPhys, MChem and MMath.
Direct entry to Level 2
Over 92 per cent of our graduates are in work or further study within six months of graduation
Professor Steve Chapman, Principal Heriot-Watt UniversityHeriot-Watt offers four-year Honours degree programmes for Scottish students who enter on the basis of Highers qualifications. For students from England, Northern Ireland or Wales entering mainly on the basis of A-Level qualifications, Heriot-Watt offers three-year Honours degree programmes in all its subjects, and encourages well-qualified A-level entrants to take this route.
English, Northern Irish and Welsh students who chose to enter the course at Level 1, will have their full year’s fees discounted at a rate of £2,250 per year, as well as £1,500 payment contribution towards living costs. Thus overall tuition fee costs will be no more than those of any comparable university elsewhere in the UK, plus students will get the payment contribution towards living costs.
Generous bursaries and scholarships
Heriot-Watt is also offering a generous package of support in the form of Bursaries and Scholarships tailored to help students from lower income backgrounds, and also to support students with exceptional academic achievements. This means that many students from England, Northern Ireland or Wales will pay less than £27,000.
In the 2011 National Student Survey, Heriot-Watt rose 18 places to 29th in the UK
Professor Steve Chapman, Principal Heriot-Watt UniversityProfessor Steve Chapman, Principal of Heriot-Watt University, said, “A Heriot-Watt degree is a positive investment in future employment. Over 92% of our graduates are in work or further study within six months of graduation, with approximately three quarters of those going straight into graduate level jobs. We have a strong track record of securing internships, work placements and industry experience and our world class research and international links to industry, both in the public and private sectors, provide our students with a head start to making their degree work for them.
“We have a long tradition of welcoming A-Level students from England, Northern Ireland and Wales, many of whom enter their chosen programme at Level 2, thus allowing them to complete their Honours degree in three years. This is a position we want to maintain and develop further.
"In the 2011 National Student Survey, Heriot-Watt rose 18 places to 29th in the UK. This result is testament to the commitment of our staff and the strong partnerships we have with our student community.”
